Topics will include:
  • An in-depth look at the purpose of formative and summative assessment and their impact on student learning
  • The impact of grading practices and the case for rubric scoring
  • Assessment timing in a CPM classroom
  • Interpreting student work

STATISTICS
This Statistics workshop is designed for those teachers wanting to gain confidence with statistics material that is typically covered in an Algebra 2, Integrated III or first semester of a 4th year Statistics course. We will be covering the following material:
  • Comparing Single Variable Data (Investigating Data Representations)
  • Two-Variable Quantitative Data (Correlation and Regression)
  • Multivariable Categorical Data (Probability: tables, trees, Venn diagrams)
  • Studies and Experiments (Cause Effect, Controlling Variability, Confounding and Bias)
  • Continuous Probability Density Curves (Normal Distributions)
  • Discrete Probability Distributions (Expected Value, Binomial Probability Distributions)

COACHING FOR LEADERS WHO SUPPORT TEACHERS USING CPM
A one day professional learning event for coaches, curriculum specialists, math department chairs, or other teacher support personnel. All leaders who are working with teachers using CPM or other student centered math programs at the secondary level are welcome. An online community will be created for those who wish to have ongoing conversations. Topics will include:
  • Teacher and student roles What should they look like?
  • Building your coaching toolbox. What might coaching sessions with a math teacher look like?
  • Supporting collaborative teacher teams and in turn collaborative student teams
  • Simplify the process for teachers...helping teachers make connections
  • Working with all stakeholders; administrators, parents, and community

ADMINISTRATORS FOR LEADERS WHO SUPPORT TEACHERS USING CPM
A one day professional learning event for administrators, curriculum specialists, or other teacher support personnel. All leaders who are working with teachers using CPM or other student centered math programs at the secondary level are welcome. An online community will be created for those who wish to have ongoing conversations. Topics will include:
  • What do I look for when I observe classrooms where students are engaged in productive mathematical discourse?
  • Teacher and student roles: What should they look like?
  • Supporting collaborative teacher teams as they develop the skills needed to successfully engage students in productive mathematical discourse
  • Simplify the process for teachers...helping teachers make connections
  • Working with all stakeholders; teachers, students, parents, and community

STUDENT TEAMS TO PROMOTE MATHEMATICAL DISCOURSE
This session is for non CPM teachers who need guidance on changing their classes to incorporate more discourse. This session will answer the questions:
  • How do you keep students engaged in interesting math problems?
  • How do you make sure students are discussing rich, mathematical concepts and ideas?
